The 6th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard headed to the Volunteer State in Maryville, TN on January 21 to recognize Head Coach George Quarles and his State Champion
Maryville (Maryville, Tenn.) Rebels football team. The Maryville football team also finished #51 in the country according to the MaxPreps Freeman poll, a computer analysis that takes into account strength of schedule, margin of victory, playoff wins and more.
Friday evening, a large crowd was on hand for the long awaited trophy presentation, which was held during halftime of the boys' basketball game. The announcer welcomed MaxPreps representative, Leland Gordon, who reminded the fans what an incredible year the Rebels had. 14 wins and dominating performances! He turned the microphone over to Tennessee Army National Guard Sergeant First Class Malcolm Campbell, who presented the Army National Guard national ranking trophy to Coach Quarles and his team members who were present. The always humble Coach Quarles allowed one of his captains to actually receive the large trophy and the crowd roared with excitement. With the award in hand and wearing their new commemorative Tour of Champions t-shirts, Coach Quarles and his players posed for pictures for the local media representatives present from MaxPreps, WVLT TV 8, WATE TV6, and The Daily Times Newspaper.
It was a great night for the Rebels and their fans to be recognized nationally for their outstanding efforts. Congratulations Maryville and best wishes in 2011!
