Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) boys basketball team improved to 12-0 last week with a 46-44 win over host St. Xavier in a Greater Catholic League South division showdown. Moeller was led by senior guard
Charlie Byers, who had a team-high 22 points. Moeller outscored St. Xavier 14-11 in the fourth quarter. The Crusaders play host to La Salle (11-1) Friday night in one of the season's most highly anticipated matchups.
SNOW POSTPONES GAMESA winter snowstorm Jan. 11 wiped the majority of winter sports events around the Cincinnati area. It was the second time schools closed due to weather within the past month. Many schools resumed on Jan. 12 despite more snowy conditions.
TOP STANDOUTS* Katie Phillips, Seton girls basketball: The senior guard had 13 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in the Saints' 45-41 win over visiting Badin on Jan. 10. She is averaging more than 16 points and six rebounds this season.
* Jaaron Simmons, Alter boys basketball: The sophomore guard had 23 points and four rebounds in an 82-50 win over visiting Lebanon. He averages about 18 points, three rebounds and three steals for the Knights.
* Semaj Christon, Winton Woods boys basketball: The senior guard had a season-high 35 points in an 85-84 loss to visiting Taft. Christon had seven assists and six rebounds and was 18 of 24 from the free-throw line. He averages about 19 points, six rebounds and six assists.
