Brady Aiken of
Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, Calif.) was the first player chosen in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft, going to the Houston Astros.
The left-handed pitcher became the first high school lefty to be chosen with the first overall pick in the draft since the New York Yankees chose Brien Taylor No. 1 in 1991.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder posted a 7-0 record for Cathedral Catholic with 111 strikeouts and a 1.06 ERA in 59.2 innings pitched.
Aiken shot to the top of the mock drafts during the spring by showing an improved fastball that topped out at 97 mph. Aiken has shown the ability to consistently throw three pitches for strikes.
A member of Team USA that won the World Cup in Taiwan last summer, Aiken has committed to play at UCLA.
