St. Rita is one of the most complete schools that we have honored as part of the MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard.
Not only are they heralded as one of the best football teams, but they are renowned as being one of the finest academic institutions in the country. On January 25, however, the main focus was on the St. Rita Mustangs and their championship football team, led by Head Coach Todd Kuska.
Arguably one of the most exciting settings that we have been to, the MaxPreps Tour of Champions ceremony took place during the halftime of a major basketball game between St. Rita and Loyola Academy.
Mustang cheerleaders started off the celebration by throwing out t-shirts, footballs, and basketballs from the Illinois Army National Guard. MaxPreps' Steve Spiewak took the mic first and let the packed gymnasium know that St. Rita was one of the best football teams in America, finishing with a national ranking of No. 24.
Next up, Sergeant Ernest Benson of the Illinois Army National Guard addressed the rowdy crowd and capped off the ceremony with the MaxPreps Tour of Champions trophy presentation to Coach Kuska.
We at the Tour of Champions always enjoy the thought of honoring a team in consecutive years. And if the optimistic indications from Coach Kuska hold true, St. Rita may be recognized once again by the MaxPreps Tour of Champions in 2008!
