There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Berlin has been an offensive powerhouse for five straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. The final score between it and Bloomfield was a 37 - 0 blowout in Berlin's favor. One of the main ringleaders for Berlin was senior Alex Halkias, who earned two touchdowns and 150 yards rushing the ball. The win also thrust Berlin into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 17th spot.
Can't Touch This
Hand got a 49 - 14 win over Cheshire last week, and a key reason for the win was junior Colin McCabe. McCabe rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns. That performance landed McCabe among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between St. Joseph and Staples, 3rd and 10th in the power rankings, respectively. St. Joseph narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past Staples 17 - 14. St. Joseph was the clear favorite in this matchup, so the near-loss was an unusual surpise.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between North Haven (9th in the power rankings) and Fairfield Prep (7th). The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games. Given their high-scoring efforts against their previous opponents, we'll see how far they can run the score up this week.
