It tied for the longest high school football game in the nation's history, and it put Bothell in the Class 4A state football semifinals.
ÿ
Bothell beat Pasco, 43-40, in a quarterfinal game that took nine overtimes to decide. The nine extra sessions tied a national record set in 1977. The previous state record was seven overtimes, which occurred twice.
ÿ
"I'm 41 years old and I've played football since I was 8, and I've never seen a game like this," Bothell coach Tom Bainter told the Seattle Times. "I feel heartbroken for [Pasco] and so excited for our kids."
ÿ
Southeastern Detroit beat Northeastern Detroit 42-36 in 1977. Two games - one in Texas 1998 and one in Arizona in 1994 - have gone to eight overtimes.
ÿ
Bothell (11-1) will play Edmonds-Woodway (12-0), which finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll, in the semifinals in the Tacoma Dome this weekend.
ÿ
At the end of regulation, the game was tied 14-14 as the two teams combined for 17 punts. High school overtime rules are similar to college rules, as both teams get the ball on the 25-yard line. After three overtimes, they get the ball on the 10.
ÿ
Pasco had a chance to win it in the sixth overtime, but a missed field goal kept the game alive.
ÿ
In the final overtime, Pasco (10-2) kicked a field goal. Bothell called a fullback dive, and Luke Jones scored from 10 yards out.
ÿ
"It came down to who wanted it more, and I wasn't going to give up, not an ounce of my body," Jones told the Seattle Times. "I just kept my feet pumping, and I was going to end up in the end zone or I was going to die trying."

Football: Semifinals Up Next
ÿ
Just one more week of football remains before the Gridiron Classic takes over the Tacoma Dome.
ÿ
The state semifinals take over this weekend with several big games:
ÿ
Class 4A: What will Bothell do for an encore after beating Pasco in nine overtimes? For starters, they'll have to stop Edmonds-Woodway's talented running back Josh Heard, who has rushed for 1,461 yards and scored 27 touchdowns for the Warriors (12-0). This game is Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome.
In the other semifinal, Gonzaga Prep (11-1), who relies on an outstanding defense, has a decided homefield advantage. Oak Harbor (11-1) will make the long trip across the state to play at Spokane's Joe Albi Stadium on Saturday at 7 p.m.
ÿ
Class 3A: Bellevue (12-0) and Auburn (12-0) square off in one semifinal that should have been a state title game as both teams were ranked 1-2 all season. Bellevue had a streak of four-straight state titles snapped last year. This game is at the Tacoma Dome Friday at 7 p.m.
ÿ
In the other semifinal, traditional state power Kennedy (12-0) will travel to the Tri-Cities to play Kamiakin (11-1) at Lampson Field on Saturday at 10 a.m. Kamiakin is making its first semifinal appearance since 1995.
ÿ
Class 2A: Will anybody stop Prosser (12-0) from winning the state title? Centralia (11-1) is the next to try to stop the nationally-ranked Mustangs and their high-scoring offense led by quarterback Kellen Moore. These teams play Saturday at the Tacoma Dome at 4 p.m.
ÿ
In the other semifinals, Lynden (11-1) faces Tumwater (11-1) Friday at the Tacoma Dome at 4 p.m. Tumwater was a state power in the bigger-school classification. It dropped down to the 2A classification this year.
ÿ
Class 1A: Can anybody stop the rematch? That's the story line in this classification. Connell (12-0) battles Montesano (11-1) at Lampson Field on Saturday at 4 p.m. Connell has been the top-ranked team all season. Connell beat No. 2 Royal earlier in the season, snapping a winning streak that was a state-best at the time. Royal (11-1) plays Meridian (12-0) in the other semifinals, just before the Connell/Montesano game.
ÿ
Class 2B: On Saturday at Pasco's Edgar Brown Stadium, the final matchup will be set. Toutle Lake (12-0) plays Asotin (8-3) at 4 p.m. LaSalle (12-0) plays Life Christian (11-2) at 1 p.m.
ÿ
Class 1B: In the eight-man semifinals, there will be new champ for the first time in four years. Four-time champ LaCrosse-Washtucna fell short of the playoffs. Lummi (10-1) and Touchet (7-4) will play at the Tacoma Dome on Saturday at 1 p.m. St. John-Endicott (11-1), which won its quarterfinal game 92-68, will play Pateros (9-3) in Spokane on Saturday at 4 p.m.
ÿ
Gridiron Classic, the six state championship games, take place Dec. 1-2 at the Tacoma Dome.

Girls Soccer: Issaquah Wins Another State Title
ÿ
Issaquah (19-0-2) beat Seattle Prep 4-1 in the Class 3A state championship game in Lakewood. It was the Indians' third state title in four years.
ÿ
Issaquah lost to Camas last year in the state title game.
ÿ
The difference this year? Kate Deines.
ÿ
Deines had to miss the title game last year as she had to fly to Florida for a commitment with the U.S. U-16 national team.
ÿ
Deines scored the game's first goal this time around.
ÿ
"This was perfect," Deines told the Seattle Times. "Last year was heartbreaking for me to leave. There's no one I love more than my high-school team. The way this ended this year for me was great. Just the way I wanted it."
ÿ
Jamie Lindstrom scored in the 65th minute as Woodinville (15-3-4) won its first Class 4A state soccer title, beating Stanwood 1-0. Woodinville coach Sully Hester won his first state title in 33 years of coaching.
ÿ
Archbishop Murphy of Everett beat Cedarcrest 1-0 in the Class 2A state title game. Cedarcrest had beat ATM twice during the regular season.
ÿ
Seattle Christian beat LaSalle of Yakima 2-1 in the Class 1A/2B/1B championship game. It's the first state title for Seattle Christian since they won the last of its seventh straight in 1999.
ÿ
In the boys Class 2B/1B title match, Bear Creek beat Northwest Christian in a shootout, 4-2. The rest of the boys play soccer in the spring.
