It may not have looked like it on the surface, but Maxwell's doubleheader sweep of Liberty Christian (Redding, Calif.) was one for the record books.
The Panthers defeated the Patriots 15-0 in the first game and 13-0 in the second to complete the regular season at 27-0. In the two games, however,
Maxwell (Calif.) set a five state records, according to the Cal-Hi Sports Record Book, and one national record, according to the National Federation of High School Sports record book.

Tyler Wells, who this week gave a verbal commitment to Nevada-Reno, pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks in the first game while
Steven Perry pitched a five-inning perfect game in the second with 11 strikeouts.
Perry also had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-7 with five runs scored, seven RBIs, a double and two home runs in the two games. Wells was just as spectacular, batting 5-for-6 with five runs scored, seven RBIs and three home runs.
Here's a look at the records broken over the course of the doubleheader:
National Record
Most No-Hitters by a Team in a Season - 9, ties the mark set by Biloxi Notre Dame (Miss.) in 1961.
State Record - Team
Most Shutouts by a Team in a Season - 16, breaks the mark of 15, set by Fresno in 1958 and tied by Fowler in 2001.
State Records - Individual
Most Runs Batted in Career - Tyler Wells, 207, breaks the mark of 203 set by Charlie Cutler of Lowell (San Francisco) in 2005.
Most Consecutive Wins - Tyler Wells, 33, ties the mark set by Mike Pill of Edgewood (West Covina, Calif.) from 1975 to 1977.
Most Consecutive Shutouts - Steven Perry, 7, ties the mark set by Jerry Jordan of Avenal in 1970. (Note: Perry had three saves in between his sixth and seventh shutouts)
Most No-hitters in a Season - Steven Perry, 5, ties the mark set by Tony Ankerson of Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) in 1957.
Wells had already broken the state record for doubles in a career earlier in the season. His total of 59 breaks the old mark of 56, set by Josh Barber of Mt. Empire (Pine Valley, Calif.) in 2008. He is also just two RBIs away from breaking the state record for RBIs in a season. The current record is 74 by Ethan Chapman of Upland Christian in 2008. Wells has 72.
Both Wells and Perry continue to sport a 0.00 ERA, which would also tie a state record should they finish the season with that mark.
Wells (10-0) and Perry (9-0) came within one hit of pitching the third set of back-to-back no-hitters in a doubleheader this season. The duo had thrown no-hitters in a doubleheader against Hayfork and Chester earlier this year. The two also combined for a no-hitter against Truckee.
Perry has given up just four hits all season and has yet to allow a run to cross the plate.
