Pioneer recap October 8, 2013
Pottsgrove extended the longest winning streak in Pioneer this week by beating Owen J. Roberts, 63-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Phoenixville lost to Perkiomen Valley 62-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Damien Davido was a bright spot for the Phantoms, as he ran for 20 yards in the defeat.
Brandon Leacraft threw for 203 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Marquis Barefield was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 167 yards on 10 carries as Pottsgrove bested Upper Perkiomen. Devon Fink also contributed to the rushing game with 98 yards on the ground.
The Rams' Leacraft and Hopkins have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Leacraft has thrown for 442 yards this season, while Hopkins has 12 catches for 252 yards. Rick Pennypacker's team's Barefield leads the league in rushing yards with 710.
A big matchup in Pioneer this week will be when Boyertown takes on Phoenixville. The Bears are currently in fourth, while Bill Furlong's team is in fifth.
The Indians made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,745 from 10,021. The advance stemmed from a 47-0 victory over Upper Perkiomen last week.
