The students here at both Katy and Cinco Ranch are very fortunate.
The community support for the schools, teams, and programs is obvious. Both have selfless booster clubs that work hard to provide everything they can for these young men and women. There will be thousands of fans waking up early on Saturday to come support both sides. I've already received emails from fans of both schools welcoming us to the town and the game.
It's great to see that people here care so much about the success, on and off the field, of the student athletes here. When you think about it, parental support makes all the difference in the world. Would the players on Cinco Ranch and Katy be here today, preparing for a football game, without the care and nourishment from the people in their lives that care about them?
Cheers to the communities here who stand behind their sons, daughters, grandchildren, cousins, and so on. If sports are an avenue for these young adults to learn life lessons, then they should all be successful.
Former Katy coach Mike Johnston once said:
"Sports is more than just winning. Sure, you want to win, but this is a tool to teach young men how to become leaders -- good husbands and good fathers. If you're going to be a good husband and father, then you have to learn how to put somebody before you. That's what we teach. When we're all working towards the same goal, then the individual success will take care of itself. That's why we play so many kids. They're all important to us."
Having spent nearly a week here, I can honestly say that both of these schools, teams, coaches, and communities embrace this philosophy. It has been a pleasure to experience.~SS
