In one of the longer baseball games of the spring,
Arlington (Tenn.) outlasted Germantown (Tenn.), 4-3, during an 18-inning marathon on Friday night.

Bug Cox shared the hero's role by slamming an outside fastball over the left field fence in the bottom of the 18th inning to end the 5-hour, 6-second contest at 12:09 a.m. Cox also pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, then returned to pitch from the 13th through the 16th.
Jonathan Moody pitched the last two innings.
Arlington ace
Brady Bramlett had relieved Cox in the fourth and pitched through the 12th, striking out 14.
Both teams scored a pair of runs in the 16th.
Overall, seven pitchers combined for 47 strikeouts.
The big victory put Arlington (31-6) in the state tournament for the first time since 2008.
