There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. Among the action were the efforts of Portales's senior Julian Urioste, an offensive menace who scored five total TDs.
St. Pius X was the better team in every quarter against Grants last week and consequently the better team overall. Everything went St. Pius X's way against Grants as it secured a 42 - 7 win. St. Pius X might be getting used to wins now that the team has gotten five in a row. The victory also thrust it into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 25th spot.
No Stoppin 'Em
Roswell was the big favorite in its game against Alamogordo last week, and for good reason. The final score between Roswell and Alamogordo was a 56 - 21 blowout in Roswell's favor. The dominant performance adds to Roswell's intimidating total: it now has six blowout victories so far this season. The combined 77-point effort made this the highest-scoring game in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Volcano Vista (5th in the power rankings) and Rio Rancho (9th). Volcano Vista narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past Rio Rancho 38 - 35. Senior Jake Deatherage was a big part of the win as his strong performance led the charge (he tossed the ball for 226 yards and two TDs).
Can't Touch This
Portales managed to bank 206 more yards than its opponent Moriarty last week, and going the extra distance paid off. Portales put the hurt on Moriarty with a conclusive 46 - 0 victory. In addition to the W, the game brought Portales's streak of high scores to four games. Senior Julian Urioste was a key playmaker for Portales. One of the top players in the power rankings for the week, he tossed for three touchdowns and rushed for two more.
