See the Allen running back in action.
As daunting a task as an undefeated season might appear at the outset, a look back over the past five seasons indicates that perfection happens more often than a casual observer might think.
Each season, the UIL crowns 12 Texas state champions spread over six classifications with two divisions in each classification.
Over the last five years, over half of the state champions have finished with undefeated records.
Last season, undefeated teams won nine of the 12 titles, tying with the 2011 season for the highest number of perfect records in the five-year sample.
Five state champions finished with unbeaten records in 2013, the fewest in the last five years.
Going into this weekend's 11-man state semifinal games, 16 schools (13 in 11-man, three in six-man) still have yet to lose a game. That number is guaranteed to drop to at least 14 by weekend's end because unbeaten teams will oppose each other in two games, Allen vs. The Woodlands in Class 6A Division I and Navarro vs. West Orange-Stark in Class 4A Division II.
