It was a perfect week for the MaxPreps power rankings: not a single team changed position in spite of last week's action. We'll tackle that and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Natick got a 35 - 6 win over Framingham last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Amir Mells. Mells earned two touchdowns and 123 yards rushing the ball. That performance made Mells one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
The battle between Tewksbury Memorial (ranked 15th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Wilmington (ranked 34th) turned out to be a somewhat underwhelming competition. Tewksbury Memorial cashed in a top-notch defensive game to claim a 28 - 0 victory over Wilmington. Even if it didn't bump Tewksbury Memorial up the rankings, the win at least kept the team from dropping.
No Stoppin 'Em
It was another game, another high-octane performance for St. John's last week (their 3rd in a row). It took its game against St. Peter-Marian by a confident 55 - 22 score. The MaxPreps rankings were spot on as they projected St. John's as the clear winner. The combined 77-point effort made this the highest-scoring game in the power rankings for the week.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Xaverian Brothers (8th in the power rankings) and Everett (1st). Both teams are coming in hot off of wins in their previous games. Of course, Everett and Xaverian Brothers can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Saturday which team falters and which extends its success.
