4A Region III District 17 recap October 22, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Hutto, who took down 380th ranked Bastrop, 10-7.
Elgin added to the longest winning streak in 4A Region III District 17 this week by beating Pflugerville Connally, 47-0. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Wildcats.
Te'Rel Simmons put up the best numbers in passing as Elgin bested the Cougars. He finished with 9 completions for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns. Simmons' favorite target this week was Anthony Nash, who caught 2 passes for 77 yards.
Georgetown's Ben Bottlinger and Camden Lepley led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Bottlinger has thrown for 1,213 yards this season, while Lepley has 47 catches for 460 yards. Da'Trean Simmons from Wade Griffin's team leads the league in rushing with 1,017 yards.
The Wildcats' Simmons is a mere 50 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 116 carries Simmons has put up 950 yards this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Elgin takes on East View. As it stands, the Wildcats are in first, while East View is in fourth.
The Hippos scaled the state rankings by moving to 387 from 442 this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region III District 17. Hutto climbed the ranks as a result of besting the Bears 10-7.
