Clarksdale (Miss.) took an early lead against New Hope (Columbus, Miss.) and held on for a 56-21 victory on Saturday.
The Wildcats scored seven points in the first quarter. Clarksdale scored on a
Chris Carpenter touchdown run.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Carpenter in the first quarter, CHS led 28-0 at the half.
The Wildcats grew their lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. Clarksdale scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Melvin Stephenson.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 41-27 win for CHS.
The defeat comes as a step back for New Hope, who notched a 21-0 victory over Amory in its previous outing. The loss broke New Hope's two-game winning streak.
Clarksdale (2-2) will play a 5A Region 1 game against West Point next week, while New Hope (2-3) will take on Center Hill also in a 5A Region 1 game.
