5A District 6 recap October 22, 2013
St. Paul added to the longest winning streak in 5A District 6 this week by beating Northshore, 20-17. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Wolves.
Ponchatoula led the league in scoring this week after putting up 33 points on Slidell.
The Panthers' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dalvin Populist threw for 200 yards and Kj Hopkins had 158 yards receiving. On the ground Bryce Perez contributed 64 yards. Coery Duplessis helped Northshore's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 16 yards.
Perez was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 64 yards on 22 carries as Northshore lost to St. Paul. Teammate Duplessis added to the ground attack by rushing for 38 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Hopkins. The Northshore star has 22 catches for 474 yards.
An important game coming up in 5A District 6 this week will be when Covington takes on Kenny Sears' team. As it stands, the Lions are in third, while the Wolves are in fourth.
Mike Bourg's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,439 from 3,808. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 20-17 victory over the Panthers last week.
