Both Briarwood Christian (14-0) and St. Paul's Episcopal (14-1) have made it this far into the playoffs, but they square off this Thursday at 7:00 PM to determine who is worthy to move on. Briarwood Christian has made scoring difficult for its opponents by holding them to an average of only 10 points per game, a number St. Paul's Episcopal will no doubt hope to clear.
Last week, Briarwood Christian took on St. Clair County. Briarwood Christian's defense took a beating in the first half, giving up 27 points. That left it at a 27 - 10 disadvantage. In the second half, however, Briarwood Christian's defense made a stand, allowing a meager six points. With its shocking comeback after the half, it stole a 37 - 33 win from St. Clair County.
As for St. Paul's Episcopal, its encounter with Beauregard two weeks ago was a 32-point stomp, but the result last week was anything but. St. Paul's Episcopal can thank its lucky stars for its win over Demopolis. The final score was a hard-fought 20 - 19. The outcome wasn't too surprising considering that St. Paul's Episcopal is 20 spots ahead in the MaxPreps state rankings, but it was certainly a bit tighter than anticipated.
