The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Thursday Balmorhea takes on Wellman-Union in the first playoff game of the year. Wellman-Union will need to watch out since Balmorhea has posted big point totals in its previous nine matchups.
Balmorhea has netted another blowout to add to its collection (now totaling nine) after its most recent game. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Grandfalls-Royalty last week, finishing up at 60 - 6. The margin wasn't a surprise since Balmorhea is ranked many positions ahead of Grandfalls-Royalty in the MaxPreps nationional rankings.
Meanwhile, Wellman-Union kept its home record unblemished after another positive outing on its own turf. It crushed Grady last week, winning 65 - 30. Senior Isiah Hood was especially active in the win, finding the end zone an impressive eight times. Hood has been a consistent playmaker for Wellman-Union as this was the 7th good game in a row from him. Senior Conner Faught banked an additional two TDs for the team.
Their wins bumped Wellman-Union to 6-4 and Balmorhea to 9-0. Both Wellman-Union and Balmorhea are bound to feel confident after their prior matchups, but one team's ego will take a hit. We'll find out on Thursday which one when the teams meet up this week.
