Despite all the recent turbulence in the San Diego State University football coaching hierarchy, Helix (La Mesa, Calif.) senior Sam Meredith
held his ground. Although head coach Brady Hoke changed his allegiance from the Aztecs to his alma mater Michigan on Tuesday, Meredith did not budge.
Fact is, Meredith was committed to SDSU no matter who was going to be the head coach. That person we now know is former New Mexico head coach and SDSU defensive coordinator Rocky Long.
"I never tell a kid to select a school for its coach," noted Helix High head coach Troy Starr. "They can be gone the first time they get a better offer. I tell my kids to base their choice on the school, academics and the overall football program."
Meredith, a highly honored athlete in the CIF-San Diego Section, is ticketed to play tight end for the Aztecs. He was also a defensive line stalwart for the Highlanders.
