SOUTH BEND, Ind. – After opening regional play in Los Angeles last weekend, the adidas 7-on-7 tournament will move to hallowed football grounds Saturday – the University of Notre Dame.
Nearly 40 Midwest teams from six states are expected to participate and compete for the right to move on to the adidas 7-on-7 national championship July 30-31 in Atlanta, Ga. Additional tournaments over the next month at the University of Central Florida (June 28-29), Texas A&M University (July 10-12) and the University of Tennessee (July 18-19) will help determine the 10-team championship field, with the top two finishers at each site moving on.
Los Angeles qualifiers included Crenshaw (champion) and Upland (runner-up).
Illinois’ Maine South and Pennsylvania’s Cathedral Prep are among the powers expected to compete this weekend. Maine South was a 2005 state runner-up and owns a record of 44-8 over the past four seasons. Cathedral Prep is 29-9 over the past three seasons with three trips to the postseason.
Notre Dame head football coach Charlie Weis is scheduled to address participants prior to the start of play on Saturday. The event will also feature interactive exhibits, including the opportunity for fans to test their speed against a virtual Reggie Bush.
