Greetings from the Buckeye State. We are in Cincinnati covering the HUGE St. X vs. Colerain game this Friday night at Nippert Stadium, on the campus of the University of Cincinnati.
We are coming off a great game between Mater Dei and Servite. Both are very good teams, but Matt Barkley put Mater Dei over the top, with the best individual performance we have yet to see. He's definitely deep in the running for MaxPreps National Player of the Year.
But I'm most excited about the game we will get to see this week. I've already seen both St. Xavier and Colerain. Talk about big victories. Colerain knocked off Alabama power Hoover. St. X. has wins against DeMatha (Mary.), Chattard (Ind.) and Trinity (Ky.). This is becoming a big rivalry out here, and each school has one of its better teams this season.
After seeing how well the Ohio teams did at the Herbstreit Challenge, I am sold on Ohio football. Division 1 high school football in Ohio is as good as football in any state, in my humble opinion. You won't find many states that boast playoff matchups as good as St. Xavier vs Colerain.
We will be around this beautiful city all week providing coverage leading up to Friday. Check back tomorrow!~SS
