5A Mid-Willamette recap September 24, 2013
Dallas was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating South Albany. The Dragons came in at 17 in the state poll after placing at number 30 last week.
Adding to the longest winning streak in 5A Mid-Willamette this week, Silverton beat Corvallis 56-13,. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Cole Chandler and Max Wilson gave Silverton a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Chandler threw for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Wilson ran for 197 yards. Teammate Mathias Kuenzi added to the ground attack by rushing for 124 yards.
Chandler and Wilson gave John Mannion's team a balanced attack through the air and ground last week.
Chandler put up the best numbers in passing as the Foxes bested the Spartans. Chandler's favorite target this week was Logan Munson, who caught 4 passes for 71 yards.
Wilson was the best running back in the league this week.
Austin Kearns was the best wideout in the league this week as Crescent Valley topped Lebanon. Kearns tallied 3 receptions for 106 yards. Corey Conklin helped Crescent Valley's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 46 yards.
Elias Shearer made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Rebels fell to Dallas. The 5-foot-8 junior.
Tanner Sanders provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Raiders defeated the Warriors. He completed 10 passes for 216 yards and also ran for 113 yards.
6-foot-5 quarterback Sanders of Crescent Valley is the league leader in passing yards this season with 855. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Munson. The Silverton star has 14 catches for 253 yards.
The most important game in 5A Mid-Willamette this week will be the match up between West Albany and Silverton. The Bulldogs enters the contest ranked 10th in the state, while the Foxes ranks fifth.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Scott Sanders' team and Tracy Jackson's team face off next week.
Next week's game between the Raiders and the Dragons will feature an aerial matchup as Sanders tests his arm against Ryan Spencer's defensive ability.
The league will see a high scoring game when Dallas and Crescent Valley face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Dragons comes in having scored 53 this season, while the Raiders have scored 136. Dallas scored 42 points last week as it beat South Albany.
Silverton led the league in scoring this week by notching 56 points on Corvallis. Chandler ran for 28 yards in the win.
