Earlier this week Jasmine Hines became Michigan's all-time girls basketball career rebound leader and next week she should add the career scoring record to her long list of outstanding accomplishments.
The 6-foot-3 senior from
Central Lake (Mich.) pulled down 19 rebounds (to go with 42 points) during a 78-50 victory over Johannesburg-Lewiston (Johannesburg, Mich.). That raised her rebound total to 1,534 – one more than the previous record which had stood for 10 years.
Hines, who has signed with Michigan State University, will shoot for the scoring record on Tuesday when Central Lake takes its 16-0 record and No. 1 Class D ranking into a home game against Inland Lakes (Indian River, Mich.).
She needs just eight points to surpass the 10-year-old record of 2,732. Despite missing two games due to a December foot injury, Hines is averaging 28.7 points and 15.5 rebounds.
As a junior, she set single-season state records for points (935) and rebounds (478) while averaging a prolific 34.6 points and 17.7 rebounds.
It's no wonder she's a strong candidate for Michigan's coveted Miss Basketball honor.
