The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday Morrilton (7-3) takes on Watson Chapel (8-2) in the first playoff game of the year. Both teams are strolling into their matchup after big wins in their previous games.
Last week, Morrilton took on Clarksville. Morrilton's defense put the team in a good position heading into the break, holding Clarksville to a measly zero points. That put Morrilton at a 17 - 0 advantage. The defense continued to do well in the second half, holding Clarksville to six points. At the end of the day, Morrilton walked away with a breezy 34 - 6 win.
As for Watson Chapel, it has netted another blowout to add to its collection (now totaling five) after its most recent game. It blew past Camden Fairview last week 39 - 14. Watson Chapel had two big standouts, as sophomore Devin Curry ran for 114 yards and also punched in one touchdown, while senior Omar Allen earned two touchdowns and 126 yards rushing the ball.
Watson Chapel and Morrilton will be experiencing extra pressure in this one since they are each in the midst of a winning streak (Watson Chapel with seven wins, Morrilton with five). We'll see which team can handle the heat this Friday.
