The Brewers and White Sox each finished 4-1 at the Area Code Games, which concluded on Saturday at Blair Field in Long Beach.
The White Sox ended the event as the top team, however, based on a head-to-head win over the Brewers on Wednesday.
Over the final three days, the Brewers, based out of Southern California, picked up wins over the Athletics, Nationals and Rangers over the final three days while the White Sox, based out of the mid-west, picked up wins over the Nationals and Athletics and lost their lone game to the Rangers.
Against the Athletics, the Brewers won 4-3. Chris Betts
had an RBI double and also scored a run to pace the offense for the Brewers.John Balliet
scored the winning run for the Brewers in a 4-3 win over the Nationals on Friday. He doubled and scored on an errant throw on his steal attempt at third base. Kevin Padlo
topped the offense with an RBI single in the first inning and an RBI triple in the sixth.
The Brewers held off the Rangers 2-1 in the final game of the day on Saturday when Betts singled home a run and scored on a Nick Valaika
double in the sixth inning.
The White Sox won their third game of the tournament with a 6-2 victory over the Nationals on Thursday. Monte Harrison
had a triple and Mason O'Brien
had an RBI single to pace a four-run second inning.
The Rangers handed the White Sox their only loss, a 9-2 defeat on Friday. Texas had a number of big hits in the game, including triples by Ryan Johnson
and Ryan Lilard and doubles by Jake Jarvis
, Michael Cantu
and Ke'bryan Hayes
The White Sox concluded the event with a 7-1 win over the Athletics. Allan Beer
was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in the win, O'Brien had two hits, Nicholas Schumpert
had a double and Caleb Eldridge
had two RBI in the victory.
The Reds finished in third place with a 3-2 record. Cincinnati concluded the tournament with a 2-0 victory over the Yankees on Saturday with Alex Verdugo
striking out five batters in three innings.
The Reds also kept the Royals winless for the tournament with a 4-3 win on Friday. Payton Squier
and Verdugo each drove in runs in the win.
Cincinnati missed out on tying the White Sox and Brewers for first place by losing to the Nationals 8-7 on Thursday. The Nationals built an 8-1 lead and held off a late rally by the Reds to hold on for the win. Handsome Monica
had a two-run double to lead the way for the Nationals.
The only other games featured a pair of ties. The Yankees were involved in both ties, including 1-1 with the Royals on Thursday and 2-2 with the Athletics on Friday.
Against the Royals, Zachary Sullivan
had an RBI double for the Yankees' only run. Michael Gretler
singled home the lone run for the Royals.
