Special teams carried Los Gatos (Calif.)
to a 42-6 victory over Menlo-Atherton (Atherton, Calif.)
on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The Wildcats's special teams scored on a kick return and a punt return.
After taking the lead on a kick return touchdown by Kyle Kevorkian in the first quarter, Los Gatos led 35-6 at the half.
LG's standout player in the win was Nick Bawden. The junior quarterback threw three touchdowns.
The Bears' Royce Branning was the standout player for his team. He threw one touchdown.
Menlo-Atherton's lone touchdown came on a 17-yard pass from Branning to Blake Olsen in the second quarter.
The Wildcats also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 27-14.
The defeat comes as a step back for Menlo-Atherton, which notched a 26-0 victory over El Camino in its previous outing. The victory was a step in the right direction for Los Gatos, which was coming off a 28-20 defeat at the hands of Archbishop Mitty in its previous game.
