1. SEFFNER ARMWOOD (1-0) – The Hawks were off last week, giving coach Sean Callahan a full two weeks to prepare for this week’s showdown versus No. 3 Tampa Bay Tech.
2. LARGO (2-0)
– The Packers were lackluster in a 20-7 win against Tarpon Springs East Lake. Largo got two second-half scoring runs from D.J. Key to rally for the win and thwart the upset-minded Eagles. Largo looks to stay unbeaten this week at St. Petersburg Gibbs.
3. TAMPA BAY TECH (1-0)
– The Titans’ game against Riverview was rained out twice during the weekend so officials cancelled the non-district matchup. But Tech gets to face a powerhouse this week, traveling to No. 1 Armwood.
4. TAMPA PLANT (0-1)
– The Panthers were rained off the slate, as well, as their matchup against longtime rival Tampa Hillsborough was cancelled after thunderstorms doused the area throughout the weekend. Plant gets back on the field this week with a home game against No. 9 Tampa Jefferson.
5. TAMPA CATHOLIC (1-0)
– Another game, another rain out. The Crusaders' game against Tampa Berkeley Prep was called off. Ocala Trinity Christian visits Tampa Catholic this week.
6. RIVERVIEW SPOTO (2-0)
– The Spartans shut down the vaunted Alonso offense and scored a 10-7 win on a 23-yard field by Carlos Andrade, his first-ever field goal. Spoto hosts Gibsonton East Bay next.
7. TAMPA HILLSBOROUGH (0-1)
– No team wants to get back on the field as much as the Terriers. They were rained out last weekend and suffered a one-point loss to Jefferson during the opening week. Hillsborough travels to play at Tampa Chamberlain this week.
8. BROOKSVILLE NATURE COAST (2-0)
– The Sharks carved up Spring Hill 38-9, led by their three-headed monster of backs: Tevin Drake (226 yards, 4 TDs), Ja’Juan Story (110 yards) and Antwan Story (90 yards, 1 TD). Nature Coast plays at Crystal River Friday.
9. TAMPA JEFFERSON (2-0)
– Does anyone play a tougher schedule than Jefferson? The Dragons rallied to a 29-28 win against No. 16 Newsome – their second-straight one-point win against a team on the poll. And next, a trip to No. 4 Plant, one of six teams on the Top 20 poll on the Dragons’ schedule.
10. TAMPA ALONSO (1-1)
– The Ravens’ offense was slowed down in their 10-7 loss to No. 6 Spoto. Quarterback C.J. Bennett was limited to 158 yards passing as Alonso could only produce a fourth-quarter touchdown. Alonso plays at No. 16 Newsome this week.
11. CLEARWATER COUNTRYSIDE (2-0)
– Tailback Alton Taylor ran for 145 yards and four touchdowns as the Cougars clawed up St. Petersburg Gibbs 38-6. Countryside hosts Seminole Osceola Friday.
12. TARPON SPRINGS (2-0)
– Adrian ‘Bubba’ Golden steamrolled for 214 yards and two scores as Tarpon Springs pounded Dunedin 24-7. The Spongers play at crosstown Tarpon Springs East Lake Friday.
13. ST. PETERSBURG (2-0)
– Malik Wilson had two scoring runs and the St. Petersburg defense was strong as the Green Devils topped No. 17 St. Petersburg Lakewood 20-8 in an early-season meeting of two solid Pinellas County teams. St. Petersburg next hosts St. Petersburg Dixie Hollins.
14. DADE CITY PASCO (1-0)
– After a bye during Week 1, the Pirates opened the season with a 27-22 win against Plantation American Heritage. Quarterback D.J. Clower threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns as the Pirates built a lead and held off American Heritage. Pasco is at South Sumter this week.
15. PLANT CITY DURANT (2-0)
– The Cougars may be the quietest 2-0 team in the area. Durant’s defense forced five turnovers and kicker Connor Bass connected on two late field goals as the Cougars cemented a 13-3 win against Brandon. Durant next plays at Tampa Jesuit.
16. LITHIA NEWSOME (0-2)
– If Durant is the most quiet 2-0 team in the area, certainly Newsome is the best 0-2 team around. Newsome has the misfortune of opening up against No. 1 Armwood and then suffered a 29-28 loss against No. 9 Jefferson. And it gets no easier for the Wolves, who host No. 10 Alonso this week.
17. ST. PETERSBURG LAKEWOOD (1-1)
– The Spartans could not get untracked in the wet and sloppy conditions in a 20-8 loss against No. 13 St. Petersburg. Lakewood hosts Gulfport Boca Ciega this week.
18. TAMPA FREEDOM (1-0)
– Freedom was another team that saw its game cancelled due to inclement weather. Up next: at home against No. 19 Tampa Sickles.
19. TAMPA SICKLES (2-0)
– Speaking of Sickles, the Gryphons are unbeaten after rolling up 393 yards of offense in a 35-12 win against Tampa Blake. A win this week at No. 18 would give the Gryphons their first-ever 3-0 start to a season.
20. LAND O’LAKES (1-0)
– The Gators were off last week. Land O‘Lakes hosts Springstead Friday.
