Prince Joins 100-Point Club
The high school basketball 100-point club inducted a new member as New York's Epiphanny Prince amassed 113 points in a single game last week.
Prince became just the third high school girl in history to reach triple digits, breaking Cheryl Miller's national record of 105 points in 1982 by eight points. The history-making performance came in a 137-32 victory for her Murry Bergtraum High team (located in Manhattan) over Brandeis.
Lisa Leslie, now with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, also eclipsed the 100-point mark in 1990 at Morningside High in Inglewood, Calif. Leslie's achievement probably deserves an asterisk as she hit 37 field goals and 27 free throws for 101 points - in the first half. Morningside's opponents elected not to take the court after halftime.
Along with Miller, Leslie, and now Prince, 14 high school boys have reached the century mark, according to the National High School Sports Record Book. Cedric Hensley of Heritage Christian Academy in Texas, and Dajuan Wagner of Camden High School in New Jersey were the last to accomplish the feat, doing so just two days apart in January of 2001.
The national boys' record is held by Danny Heater of Burnsville High in West Virginia. Heater recorded an incredible 135 points in a 1960 game against Widen.

Hutchison(s) Makes History
Prince wasn't the only high school girl making history last week. Michaela Hutchison of Skyview High School in Alaska became the first girl to win a state wrestling title Saturday night, capturing the 103-pound classification.
Just a sophomore, Hutchison compiled a 41-4 record on the season with 33 pins. She was the runner-up in the same weight class as a freshman. Older brother, Eli, captured his fourth-straight state title on the same night, finishing his career with a record of 192-5.
WIAA Announces Emerald City Kickoff Classic Lineup
The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced the 10-team lineup for its annual football showcase event Wednesday, the Emerald City Kickoff Classic, taking place this year Saturday, Sept. 2 at Qwest Field in Seattle.
The event's unofficial main event will be the 5:30 p.m. game between perennial powerhouse Prosser and Southridge of Kennewick. Prosser compiled a 13-2 record in 2005 behind the arm of quarterback Kellen Moore, who threw for 4,330 yards and 64 touchdowns as a junior, both state records.
Southridge, which held down the No. 1 ranking in the 4A ranks for much of the year, counters with its own superstar signal caller in Jason Munns. The 6-6, 230-pound Munns will be among the nation's most heavily-recruited players after throwing for over 2,100 yards and 32 touchdowns during his junior campaign.
Both teams will be among the favorites to capture a state title in Washington's newly-aligned 3A classification.
The event's opener will feature small school juggernaut Archbishop Murphy against Orting, with Columbia River facing Curtis at noon. Auburn, who has one of the state's best returning players in quarterback/defensive back Kellen Kiilsgaard, takes on Moses Lake in an East vs. West showdown at 3 p.m.
Redmond's Eastlake High will tackle Punahou, Hawaii in the 8 p.m. finale. The 10 participants combined for a 98-23 record in 2005, with eight reaching the postseason.
The event gained nationwide attention in 2004 when Bellevue, Wash., defeated De La Salle, Calif., to end a national record, 151-game winning streak.
