The lineups may shuffle each week for Seffner Armwood but the results are still the same.
Earlier this season, starting quarterback Mywan Jackson was among those missing time from the lineup. September 14 against neighborhood rival Brandon, the top-ranked Hawks were without the services of outstanding lineman Matt Patchan, safety Aaron Duncan and lineman Sergio Joyner.
And it seemed to make a difference - for a while.
Armwood came out of a 0-0 halftime tie, scored 27 points in the third quarter and cruised to a 34-3 win. The Hawks (3-0) could be without another key component next week against Newsome as fullback Matt Eastman suffered a shoulder injury against Brandon.
"We played two teams tonight," said Armwood coach Sean Callahan after the win. "We played Brandon and we played Armwood. We played against ourselves. We were very undisciplined. That's not like Armwood football.''
But it was good enough for Armwood to still command the top of the MaxPreps Tampa Bay Top 10. And the rest of the list is pretty similar to last week's as well, with only a few changes as Tampa Middleton lost to Tampa Plant and slipped two spots, St. Petersburg Boca Ciega jumped up two spots after an overtime win against St. Petersburg Dixie Hollins and Riverview reappears on the poll.
1. SEFFNER ARMWOOD (3-0) Three games, three wins, 114 points scored, 12 points allowed. The Hawks have three quality opponents coming up in Lithia Newsome, No. 5 Tampa Jefferson and their Class 4A, District 11 opener next month against Tampa Bay Tech.
2. TAMPA HILLSBOROUGH (3-0) Coach Earl Garcia's team won its rivalry game against Tampa Chamberlain and has a month to keep rolling before its district showdown with No. 1 Armwood. Hillsborough opens its district slate Friday against No. 7 Middleton.
3. LARGO (2-0) The Packers were off last week and busy preparing for St. Petersburg with maybe, just maybe one eye peeking ahead for its Sept. 28 showdown with Dunedin.
4. TAMPA PLANT (2-1) The Panthers got another solid performance from quarterback Aaron Murray, who threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns in an impressive 35-7 win against No. 7 Middleton. The Panthers host No. 10 Riverview Friday.
5. TAMPA JEFFERSON (1-1) The Dragons have had two weeks to get ready for Tampa Gaither, which could prove to be a tough opponent. Jefferson quarterback Zack Grossi used the week off to continue rehabbing a dinged up right throwing shoulder.
6. ST. PETERSBURG NORTHEAST (3-0) Tailback Jeff Brinson galloped for another 143 yards and three touchdowns last week in a win against St. Petersburg Gibbs. His line after three games - 80 carries, 846 yards, 14 touchdowns and a 10.5 yards per carry average. The Vikings begin 4A-9 play Friday at Bradenton Southeast.
7. TAMPA MIDDLETON (2-1) The Tigers are licking their wounds after losing to Plant but are still a solid team. They'll get an immediate opportunity to bounce back, albeit a tough one against district rival, No. 2 Hillsborough.
8. ST. PETERSBURG BOCA CIEGA (2-0) The Pirates haven't blown anybody out this season but continue to play solid football. They'll travel to St. Petersburg Lakewood Thursday.
9. NEW PORT RICHEY RIDGEWOOD (2-0) Rams tailback Byronell Arline has ran over and around defenses this season. He'll be out to do more Friday against Brooksville Central.
10. RIVERVIEW (1-1) The Sharks re-emerge on the poll after 31-0 thumping of Plant City, led by tailback Jahleel Addae's three touchdowns. The Sharks travel to Plant Friday.
Honorable mention: Clearwater Countryside, Dunedin, Tarpon Springs and Lithia Newsome.
