3A Region 4 recap October 22, 2013
Charleston extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 4 this week by beating Lamar, 31-6. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Charleston was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting the Warriors. Greg Kendrick's team came in at 15 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Chance Shelby was the best wideout in the league this week as the Tigers beat Lamar. Shelby racked up 7 receptions for 92 yards. Hayden Newhart helped Charleston's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 89 yards.
Charleston's Ty Storey and Taylor King have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Storey has thrown for 1,811 yards this season, while King has 33 catches for 524 yards. Hunter Sanders from Josh Jones' team leads the league in rushing with 853 yards.
Going into this week's contest against Lavaca, the Tigers' Storey needs 189 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in 3A Region 4 this week will be when Charleston takes on the Golden Arrows. The Tigers are in first place, while Lavaca is in fifth place.
Atkins made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,605 from 9,575. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 25-21 victory over Mansfield last week.
