Roger Brown MaxPreps.com The players on the Laconia High School football team probably felt like they earned every bit of Saturday's 28-7 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. The St. Thomas players probably felt like they gave the game away. St. Thomas committed five turnovers and Laconia turned three of them into first-half touchdowns as the Sachems improved their Division IV record to 5-0. Kearsarge, which raised its record to 5-0 by knocking off Fall Mountain 61-14 Friday, is the only other unbeaten team in the division. "One of the poorest efforts I've seen one of my teams put on the field, ever," St. Thomas coach Rod Wotton told the Portsmouth Herald. Laconia fullback Brian Bozek rushed for 76 yards and three touchdowns. Laconia scored 21 points in the second quarter and led 28-0 at halftime. "If you get a break you've got to capitalize," Laconia coach Craig Kozens said. "That's what we did." The loss dropped St. Thomas to 3-2. Kearsarge handed St. Thomas its first loss a week earlier. The game featured the two programs that met in last year's Division IV championship game. St. Thomas won that contest, 21-3, in Laconia. "They came out last year and took it to us," Laconia defensive lineman John Sands said. "We wanted to take it to them. We let it fuel the fire all week." Kozens said he wouldn't be surprised if the teams met in the playoffs this season, but Wotton didn't sound as optimistic. "If we don't get better we don't have to worry about seeing them again," Wotton said. Boys Basketball: BG hires Migneault Bishop Guertin athletic director Tony Johnson had a busy week. Johnson, who also serves as the school's football coach, had to prepare his team for a game against Alvirne, and began the week by hiring Jim Migneault to coach the school's boys basketball team. Migneault has been the head coach at Merrimack and Raymond, and also served as an assistant coach at Trinity. Migneault replaces John Fisher, who resigned earlier this fall. "Fisher did a great job setting up a program and had a lot of success," Johnson told the Nashua Telegraph. "He left us in very good shape. "Jim is a great fit in all categories. He's a BG grad, he very, very upbeat with the kids, and he's had a lot of success." |
