Big Island I recap Oct. 16, 2012
Jordan Cristobal of Kealakehe ran for the longest rushing play in Big Island I this season against Kea'au last week.
The Waveriders extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Cougars, 53-0. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Hilo's dynamic duo of Drew Kell and Jacob Genegabaus proved tough for Waiakea to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kell threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns and Genegabaus had 121 yards receiving. Donovan Kelley helped Hilo's passing attack out by catching one ball for 40 yards.
Giuseppi Zapataoliva was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 187 yards on seven carries as Sam Papali'i's team defeated the Warriors. Teammate David Fangupo added to the ground attack by rushing for 71 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Kell of Hilo is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1144. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. On the ground, the Waveriders' Lennox Costales has rushed for 724 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Costales. The Kealakehe star has 32 catches for 478 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Kealakehe takes on second place Hilo. Kealakehe bested Kea'au last week, while David Baldwin's team beat Waiakea.
The Waveriders took down the Cougars 53-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Zapataoliva caught one passes for 35 yards in the win.
