Rubidoux is ten games into its season, but it hasn't met anyone harder than the team challenging it next. This Friday it takes on Burroughs in the first playoff game of the year. With four games decides by three points or fewer, Rubidoux likes to keep its enemies close, so things could come down to the wire.
Rubidoux was close but no cigar last week, losing to Banning 35 - 33. The defeat came about despite a quality game from senior Nathan Huerta, who earned two touchdowns and 197 yards rushing the ball. This marked the 3rd consecutive game in which Huerta had 100+ rushing yards. Junior Tyson Giles was in the mix too, providing Rubidoux with two touchdowns.
As for Burroughs, it battled it out with Sultana last week for a well-earned 22 - 16 overtime win. The contest all came down to a six-yard rushing touchdown in the last minute of the game.
Rubidoux's defeat dropped it to 5-5 while Burroughs's win brought it to 8-2. Burroughs's offensive line will need to gear up for a tough test against a Rubidoux defense that got four sacks against Banning last week. We'll see if it is up to the challenge.
