It's been a crazy 24 hours! After driving late into the night, we woke up in Indianapolis and headed into the RCA Dome, home of the Colts, and watched Indiana's best play in the state championships. Chris and I were especially excited to see Warren Central play Carmel for the state championship in the top division. We filmed the entire game and you should be able to see everything online in a few days.
Warren Central lived up to the hype that we have heard about them as we have traveled around the country. They are the most physically impressive team we have seen since Euless Trinity of Texas, and have made a habit of running the ball right down their opponent's throats all year long. In the state championship game, Carmel put up a great fight, but fell 35-14, and Warren Central set a state record with their 4th consecutive state championship. Darren Evans ran for 3 TDs and ripped off huge chunks of yards with the help of his massive O-line. Evans shattered Carmel hopes as he piled up over 200 yards and finished with an insane 56 TD's on the year. The Warren Central D was equally impressive, shutting down the run and pass game with smashmouth play in the trenches and great overall speed in the secondary. Bottom line, Chris and I saw another phenomenal team tonight and they deserve consideration as one of the nation's elite teams.
Our visit to Indiana was short lived as we got right back to driving after the game. We pointed the RV west and put the pedal to the floor as we have a bit of a trek ahead of us this week. We are officially headed back to the West, and although Seattle is a long way from my northern California home, this week's drive is going to feel like a final voyage home in many ways. Just a measly 2300 more miles and we will be in Seattle to watch their state championship games and see how they play up in the Northwest!
