6A District 1 recap October 8, 2013
Owasso was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in 6A District 1. The Rams beat Ponca City 24-0 earlier in the week.
Union took down Stillwater 62-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. MASON FARQUHAR threw for 160 yards and 4 touchdowns during the win.
The Redskins' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground TYLER ADKINS chipped in 147 yards. KAYLOR PEARSON helped Union's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 52 yards.
Braxton Noble provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Pioneers fell to Union. He completed 12 passes for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 54 yards. Noble's key target this week was Jordan Brown, who caught 5 passes for 69 yards.
Isaiah Johnson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Stillwater fell to Kirk Fridrich's team. The 6-foot-0 junior nabbed 1 interception.
He went 13-15 with 2 interceptions.
Jeffery Mead was the best wideout in the league this week as the Redskins bested Tucker Barnard's team. Mead tallied 4 receptions for 60 yards. PEARSON helped Union's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 52 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Noble of the Pioneers is the league leader in passing yards this season with 923. He has also thrown 8 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Mead. The Union star has 29 catches for 425 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bartlesville takes on Owasso. As it stands, the Bruins are in third, while Bill Patterson's team is in fifth.
The Wildcats made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,326 from 9,184. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 24-0 victory over Ponca City last week.
