MaxPreps National Team of the Week - South Medford, Ore.
South Medford (27-3) captured Oregon's 6A state title with a 58-54 win over defending champion Lake Oswego in front of over 9,000 fans Saturday night at McArthur Court in Eugene.
The Panthers reached the finals with wins over Grant (80-56) and Jesuit (70-51) Thursday and Friday night, respectively.
Junior guard Michael Harthun led South Medford with 24 points in the final, while Duke-bound wing Kyle Singler capped his storied high school career with 18 while defending the state's newly-crowned all-time scoring leader, Kevin Love.
Singler poured in 32 against Grant in the quarterfinals, and 26 with 13 rebounds in the semifinal win over Jesuit.
The South Medford-Lake Oswego final was a rematch of the 2006 championship game, won by Lake Oswego. With the win, the Panthers jumped to No. 5 in Monday's MaxPreps National Rankings.
