The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday Triton (8-3) takes on Asheboro (8-3) in the first playoff game of the year. Both teams are strolling into their matchup after big wins in their previous games.
Triton breezed past Western Harnett two weeks ago with a final score of 34 - 7. No one had a larger role in the success than junior running back De'marius Staton, who brought his A game into the contest. He picked up 80 yards on the ground. Staton has been a consistent playmaker for Triton as this was the 5th good game in a row from him.
As for Asheboro, everything went its way against Central Davidson two weeks ago as it secured a 70 - 0 win. At 70 points, that marked Asheboro's largest margin of victory so far this year.
The last time they met, Asheboro was the clear winner with a 35 - 12 finish. This time, their match is expected to be much closer since they have similar state rankings (Triton at 114th, Asheboro at 139th). Will Triton avenge its loss? We'll find out soon enough.
