Both Los Fresnos (8-3) and Southwest (9-2) have made it this far into the playoffs, but they square off this Saturday at 1:00 PM to determine who is worthy to move on. Los Fresnos is currently on a four-game winning streak and looking to extend its dominance.
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's just how it played out between Los Fresnos and Edinburg last week. Los Fresnos strolled past Edinburg with points to spare, taking the game 34 - 14. One of the main ringleaders for Los Fresnos was senior Charles Chapa, who earned two touchdowns and 139 yards rushing the ball. Chapa should be a familiar name as he has been a major contributor for Los Fresnos in the past 11 games.
Meanwhile, Southwest kept its home record unblemished after another positive outing on its own turf. It finished ahead of La Joya last week by a score of 14 - 7. No one had a larger role in the success than junior Damian Lopez, who brought his A game into the contest. He ran for 52 yards and also punched in one touchdown.
The last time they met, Los Fresnos walked away with a 27 - 19 win. Los Fresnos ended Southwest's playoff run with that victory, so what better chance for Southwest to pay the team back than this game? Repeat or revenge, it should be a great matchup.
