2A-1 Region I District 2 recap November 5, 2013
Denver City added to the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region I District 2 this week by beating Slaton, 49-21. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Mustangs.
Lamesa's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Roger Martin threw for 125 yards and Ramon Arguellas had 74 yards receiving. On the ground Kendrick Hunter chipped in 107 yards. Quade Douglas helped Lamesa's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 42 yards.
Hunter was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 107 yards as the Tornadoes fell to Brownfield. Teammate Martin added to the ground attack by rushing for 69 yards.
Lamesa's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tornadoes feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Martin has thrown for 1,096 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Jahlahni Edwards has 25 catches for 267 yards.
The Cubs are in third place, while Denver City is in first place.
Idalou made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,239 from 3,443. The improvement was largely due to a 63-21 victory over Kermit last week.
