South View (9-3) has a real challenge coming up -- the hardest it has met all year. Both it and Hoggard (11-0) have made it this far into the playoffs, but they square off this Friday at 7:30 PM to determine who is worthy to move on. With five games decides by three points or fewer, South View likes to keep its enemies close, so things could come down to the wire.
Last week, South View took on Ragsdale. South View's defense took a beating in the first half, giving up 21 points. That put it down 21 - 14. Thankfully, the offense came through for it, scoring 24 in the second half. That was just enough to get it the win as it snuck past Ragsdale 38 - 35.
As for Hoggard, it can now show off nine landslide victories after its most recent game. It took its contest against New Hanover two weeks ago by a conclusive 34 - 7 score. Senior Lloyd Jarreau didn't have many carries in the previous game, but he had more touches this time and made them count as he ran for 59 yards and punched in one touchdown.
Of course, Hoggard and South View can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
