2006 MaxPreps Oklahoma All-State Team - Offense
Most Valuable Player - Derrick Locke, Hugo
Forget that Derrick Locke played in Class 3A. Locke was unstoppable for the Buffaloes in his senior season, rushing for 3,275 yards and 47 touchdowns while leading Hugo to the Class 3A semifinals. Locke scored 51 total touchdowns on the season for Hugo. Locke has received lukewarm recruiting interest from Wyoming, Arkansas State, and Oklahoma.
QB: Mark Ginther, Jenks
Ginther, a junior, led Jenks to their ninth Class 6A title with a 28-7 victory over Enid. Ginther passed for 2,140 yards and 27 touchdowns compared to just five interceptions, completing 64 percent of his passing attempts this season. Ginther will have a decision to make after his senior season in 2007 whether to pursue football or baseball.
RB: Michael Harris, Washington (Tulsa)
Harris rushed for 2,107 yards and 36 touchdowns in just 11 games this season for Washington. Against Sand Springs, Harris rushed for 410 yards and seven touchdowns. Harris was a key component for the Hornets when they downed Class 6A champion Jenks, handing the Trojans their only loss in 2006. Haris rushed for 265 yards and four touchdowns. Harris recently committed to play his college football at Arkansas, joining former Washington teammate Felix Jones in the potent Razorback rushing attack.
RB: Kingjack Washington, Owasso
Washington was outstanding as a senior for Owasso, rushing for 2,133 yards and 21 touchdowns to guide the Rams to Class 6A semifinals. In the 6A quarterfinals against unbeaten Westmoore, Washington exploded for a career-high 245 yards and four touchdowns as Owasso upset the Jaguars.
WR: Josh Cooper, Mustang
Cooper, an Oklahoma State commit, hauled in 81 passes for 1,328 yards and 15 touchdowns for Mustang. As a junior as Mustang made a run to the Class 6A state finals, Cooper caught 95 passes for 1,748 and 18 touchdowns. Cooper could have been considered on the defensive All-State team as well after intercepting six passes in 2006.
WR: Corey Taylor, East Central (Tulsa)
Taylor had 1,170 yards and 12 touchdowns after grabbing 62 passes as a senior for East Central. As a junior, Taylor helped the Cardinals win the Class 5A state title by hauling in three touchdown passes for East Central while intercepting six passes on defense.
TE: Brian Booker, Ardmore
After living in the shadow of Oklahoma freshman and former high school All-American Jermaine Gresham, Booker broke out of it in a big way for the Tigers. In just 11 games, Booker grabbed 62 passes for 653 yards and nine touchdowns for Ardmore, who won the District 5A-1 crown.
OL: Matt Romine, Union (Tulsa)
At 6-6, 285, Romine helped pave the way for Union under the recently departed Kevin Wright. Romine holds scholarship offers from Florida, Miami (FL), Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
OL: Kody Cooke, Enid
Cooke, an Oklahoma commit, was a major force in Enidƒ_Ts improbable run to the Class 6A state final. Cooke, at 6-4, 285, chose the Sooners over other offers from Texas Tech, Wyoming, and Tulsa.
OL: Quinton Prince, Heritage Hall (Oklahoma City)
Prince, at 6-3, 298, is committed to continue his football career under Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State. On defense Prince recorded 89 tackles and 11 quarterback sacks for the Chargers.
OL: Colby Whitlock, Noble
Whitlock committed to Texas Tech in July and projects as a defensive lineman at the next level. Whitlock, at 6-3, 290, anchored the defensive line for Bears with 109 tackles and 11 forced fumbles.
OL: Tyler Parish, Ardmore
Parish recently committed to Rice after being a key component in Ardmoreƒ_Ts run to the District 5A-1 title this season. Parish, at 6-4, 281, helped the Tigers run up 329 yards per game of offense during the 2006 season.
K: Stephen Hoge, Putnam City North (Oklahoma City)
Hoge nailed 12 of 16 field goal attempts in 2006 for the Panthers. His longest field goal in 2006 was from 43 yards. Hoge has seen recruiting interest from Colorado State, Western Michigan, Michigan State, and Harvard for his kicking services.
ATH: Gerald Jones, Millwood (Oklahoma City)
Where do you put Jones? Jones was so good in leading Millwood to the Class 2A title that a position was created for him. The Tennessee commit rushed and passed for over 1,500 yards for the Falcons. In the Class 2A semifinals against Spiro, Jones showed why he is regarded as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks ever to come out of the Sooner state. Jones rushed for 192 yards and threw for 181 yards in a 56-26 victory, including an 81-yard touchdown scamper.
Top Offensive Underclassmen
Jameel Owens, Muskogee
Remember this name. Owens had 21 receptions for 422 yards and six touchdowns for the Roughers in 12 games. At 6-4, 210, Owens will be one of the top recruits in the country at wide receiver in 2007.
Chris Adkins, Jenks
Adkins made life for Ginther a lot easier. In the Class 6A state final win over Enid, Adkins rushed for 193 yards and a touchdown to pace the Trojans.
Beau Blankenship, Norman North
As a sophomore, Blankenship rushed for 1,578 yards and 16 touchdowns to help Norman North to the Class 6A quarterfinals.
Tyler Tettleton, Norman North
Tettleton, the son of former Major Leaguer Micky Tettleton, is another sophomore that has Norman North hoping they can break the dominance of the Eastern teams in Oklahoma. Tettleton threw for 1,852 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Timberwolves.
Kye Staley, Guthrie
Staley led the Bluejays to the Class 5A semifinals by rushing for 1,450 yards and 21 touchdowns while also throwing for 1,008 yards and 15 touchdowns.
David Oku, Carl Albert (Midwest City)
Oku rushed for 1,462 yards and 19 touchdowns as a sophomore and was a major reason why the Titans took home the Class 5A state title.
