The final week of regular season games in the Volunteer State always has big time playoff consequences for some teams in the state.
ÿ
Several teams have already clinched the region title and this Friday's game is just a warm up to get ready for the playoffs.
ÿ
But others are playing for region titles and a whole lot of pride.
ÿ
In all seven regions, titles are up for grabs with five of those games in Middle Tennessee, as No. 3-ranked JoByrns (9-0) travels to No. 5 Cascade (9-0) for the region 5-1A crown.
ÿ
While in Class 2A, the No. 1-ranked team in Goodpasture (9-0) goes to Christ Presbyterian Academy (8-1) the state's No. 4 ranked squad for region 5-2A supremacy.
ÿ
The No. 5-ranked Camden Lions (8-1) go to Lewis County (9-0), the No. 3 ranked team for the region 6-2A title.
ÿ
Unranked Pearl Cohn (6-3) travels to Clarksville to take on undefeated Station Camp (9-0) for the region 4-3A title.
ÿ
A Bison win would give the four-year old school their first undefeated season and region title in school history and this after a 1-9 2005 season.ÿ
ÿ
No. 8 Springfield (9-0) travels to Clarksville High (6-3) with the winner taking home the
region 6-4A title.
ÿ
In Chattanooga, Tyner (6-3) will take on Boyd Buchanan (2-7) for the region 5-2A title, while in west Tennessee Class 3A's No. 3 ranked team in Jackson South Side (9-0) will battle Lexington (6-3) for the region 6-3A title, also in Class 1A Trinity Christian (8-1) on the year plays at No. 8 ranked Fayette Academy (8-1) for the region 8-1A title.
ÿ
What a Difference a Year Makes
ÿ
Last season, Trousdale Co. was the 800-pound gorilla of Class 1A as the Yellow Jackets steamrolled almost every team they came in contact with going undefeated at 15-0 winning the 1A state title 52-16 over Union City.
ÿ
2006 has been a different story for coach Clint Satterfield's troops as they have battled injury and have fell victim to a much tougher region 4-1A.
ÿ
Good news for the Yellow Jackets (5-4) is a win and Trousdale is in possibly at second in the region but more realistically they will be fourth in the region.
ÿ
Ravenwood (6-3), the Class 5A champ is in but like Trousdale Co. will probably be the No.4 seed, but with a little help the Raptors could be the two seed in region 6-5A.
ÿ
Livingston Academy who rode the legs of quarterback Wilson Cates to a Class 3A state championship over David Lipscomb and a 10-5 record in 2005, will not make the playoffs as the Wildcats are 1-8 going into their season finale against Knoxville Fulton.
ÿ
Montgomery Bell Academy (4-5) faces a must win situation against Chattanooga Baylor, a win and the Big Red are in, a loss and MBA will miss the playoffs for the first time since 1994.
ÿ
Another proud powerhouse program Oak Ridge (5-4) who was the Class 5A runner up to Ravenwood last season has to beat Knoxville Farragut (6-3) to get into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in region 2-5A.
ÿ
If the Wildcats don't make the postseason, it would be the first time since 1992, a string of 13 years.
ÿ
Win and We're In..Maybe
ÿ
The following teams need a win in the last regular season game but even with a win, they need help to secure a playoff berth.
ÿ
Watertown (6-3) can clinch the playoffs and No. 2 seed in region 4-1A with win over Monterey but a loss and a Trousdale Co. win knocks them out of playoffs.
ÿ
White House- Heritage (6-3) will miss playoffs with loss to Forrest (7-2), but a win will give them their first playoff appearance in school history
ÿ
Peabody (6-3) and Hixson (6-3) both could share the same fate as they both could miss playoffs even with wins as Huntingdon could knock Peabody out with a win, while Brainerd (4-5) could do the same to Hixson with a win.
ÿ
Independence (6-3) will not make the playoffs even if they win because of a balanced region 6-5A as Franklin (8-1), Dickson Co. (7-2), Brentwood (6-3) and Ravenwood will get the spots.
ÿ
But The Eagles will go bowling as they have accepted a bowl bid to play in the first annual Sonic Bowl against Nashville Overton (4-5) on November 2.
