This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings. For football, only 50 of the country's best are invited and with nearly 17,000 competing varsity teams. This puts the Lions ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!
On Saturday, Dec. 3 the West Linn Lions made their second straight appearance in the
OSAA Class 6A state title game, and with the bitter taste of last year's loss to Jesuit, the team demolished Central Catholic in a 62-7 victory. The Lions completed an undefeated season (14-0) and clinched the first football state title in school history.
The team kicked off the season as the No.1 ranked contestant on the 2016 Oregon Preseason Fab 5 presented by the Army National Guard, and as predicted, West Linn took home the state crown. The Bulldogs finished ranked
No.1 in Class 6A,
No.1 in the state and highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings.
These incredible season achievements have earned the West Linn Lions an invitation to the 12th Annual Tour of Champions.
Please join us as we celebrate with the football team, coaching staff, students and fans on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7:15 p.m. during halftime of the boys basketball game in the gym.
