There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. Among the games was a one-point thriller between Charlotte Christian and Providence Day.
Can't Touch This
Charlotte Christian got a 33 - 32 win over Providence Day last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Garrett Shrader. Shrader rushed for 194 yards and four touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Shrader as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Myers Park and Porter Ridge, 10th and 22nd in the power rankings, respectively. Myers Park got a somewhat close 28 - 23 victory over Porter Ridge. The win raised Myers Park up three spots in the power rankings.
No Stoppin 'Em
The MaxPreps rankings indicated that Crest would come out the decided victor last week, and the rankings were spot on. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Burns, finishing up at 63 - 14. Crest's margin of victory (49 points) marked the biggest win the team has had all season. The combined 77-point effort made this the highest-scoring game in the power rankings for the week.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Hough (7th in the power rankings) and Mallard Creek (1st). Both teams are entering with last-week wins under their belts. Both the Mallard Creek and Hough defenses have allowed few points this year (averaging 8.36 ppg and 11 ppg, respectively), so the teams might find scoring more difficult than usual this week.
