Spring Mountain simply couldn't be stopped on Friday, as they easily beat Beatty 61-14. The lopsided score is just par for the course this season for Spring Mountain, who can brag about five blowout wins.
It took a quarter to shake off the cobwebs, but after zero first-quarter points, the Spring Mountain offense picked up 28 points in the second quarter. Beatty wasn't quite able to keep up, scoring 14 to make it 28-14 heading into the break. Spring Mountain put the match away in the third quarter with 20 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
Spring Mountain had a senior duo take command as Da'Juan Brown passed for 261 yards and 3 touchdowns and Malik Powell's caught passes for 246 yards and 3 touchdowns. If you haven't heard Brown's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in their past three games. The Spring Mountain defense stepped up as well to lay out the quarterback six times.
Next week Spring Mountain take on Pahranagat Valley at 1:30 PM. Each of these teams will be battling to keep their five-game winning streak alive. As for Beatty, they will face off against Mineral County.
