Tony Wroten Jr. ended his recruitment Thursday by committing to the hometown Washington Huskies during a ceremony at Garfield High School.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard picked the Huskies over fellow finalists Connecticut, Louisville, Seattle University and Villanova.
Wroten, rated the No. 24 senior in the country by MaxPreps, missed his junior year at Garfield with an ACL injury suffered during football. He returned to the court prior to the summer and won a gold medal with the United States' under-17 team at the FIBA World Championship in July.
Pegged as the top prospect in the 2011 class early on in his high school career, Wroten was also a mainstay for Seattle Rotary Style, a club program that has produced NBA standouts like Brandon Roy, Rodney Stuckey and Marvin Williams.
As a sophomore, Wroten averaged 17.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 3.0 steals per game and helped the Bulldogs reach Washington's Class 4A title game. With the future Husky back this winter, Garfield will be a championship favorite in the state's largest classification.
The announcement was streamed live on The Seattle Times' web site and drew over 4,500 viewers. Wroten joins a 2011 recruiting class for head coach Lorenzo Romar that also features verbal commitments Hikeem Stewart from Seattle's Rainier Beach High School and Jernard Jarreau of McDonogh 35 in New Orleans.
