atmosphere in the basketball gym of Saint Xavier High school in Louisville, KY
was electrifying! Over 1,400 students were screaming in excitement as the Saint
X football team was being honored during the MaxPreps Tour of
Champions presented by the National Guard. St Xavier was being honored
for its 14-1 record, 6 1A state championship and its No. 16 nationally ranked
position according to the MaxPreps Freeman poll. An amazing feat considering
16,000 teams donned helmets and pads across the land.
ceremony began at halftime of the boy's varsity basketball game when MaxPreps
spokesman Murphy Fair, known in his home state of Tennessee as “the high school
football guru,” incited “boos” from the
crowd by recalling last year’s MaxPreps Tour of Champions visit to local
Kentucky native, Trinity - Saint X’s biggest rival. Just when you thought it
couldn’t get any louder, the entire
student body erupted into chanting “USA….USA…USA” as Staff Sergeant Nicholas
Vinson from the Kentucky National Guard took the microphone to present Coach
Mike Glaser and the team captains with the National Guard National
Ranking trophy or the Minuteman. Coach Glaser proudly held the trophy and
then handed it off to the team captains who raised the trophy up and down in
rhythm to the cheers. Coach Glaser
congratulated the team for finishing 16th in the country, and
challenged the basketball team and fans to uphold the standard of
"Champions" at Saint X.
congratulations to Coach Glaser and the Tiger football team for finishing 16th
out of 16,000 schools nationwide!
