Both Hackettstown and Caldwell have made it this far into the playoffs, but they square off this Friday at 7:00 PM to determine who is worthy to move on. Both teams are strolling into their matchup after big wins in their previous games.
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's just how it played out between Hackettstown and Mountain Lakes last week. Hackettstown blew past Mountain Lakes 35 - 7. One major factor in the win was the play of sophomore Nicolas Gagliardi, who rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Gagliardi went long for a 54-yard TD catch in the second quarter, one of the game's most exciting plays.
As for Caldwell, it has netted another blowout to add to its collection (now totaling seven) after its most recent game. It had all the answers against Whippany Park last week, winning 37 - 7. The high-scoring offensive effort was a definite turnaround from Caldwell's flat performance last game.
Their wins bumped Hackettstown to 7-3 and Caldwell to 8-2. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, Hackettstown and Caldwell will really light up the scoreboard.
