5A Region III District 17 recap November 5, 2013
Cypress Ranch scaled the state rankings by moving to 330 from 360 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region III District 17. The Mustangs were able to move up by besting Cypress Springs 35-10.
Langham Creek extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cy-Ridge, 45-21. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Lobos.
Jersey Village's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Deshun Qualls threw for 135 and 1 touchdown and Jalen Richardson had 70 yards receiving. On the ground Qualls contributed 91 yards. Brandon Major helped Jersey Village's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 32 yards.
The Falcons' dynamic duo of Qualls and Richardson proved to be unstoppable against Cypress Lakes, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Major helped Jersey Village's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 32 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Cy-Woods's Nick Hooper and Mason Roberts have proven to be a lethal combination. Hooper has thrown for 1,382 yards this season, while Roberts has 25 catches for 439 yards. Jersey Village's Lavance Moore leads the league in rushing yards with 778.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Wildcats' Roberts goes up against David Snokhaus' team's Lakent Alexis.
Next week's game between Cy-Woods and the Falcons will feature a good passing match up as Hooper will test his arm against Alexis' defensive ability.
One of 5A Region III District 17's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Trent Faith's team and Jersey Village face off next week.
At the moment, the Falcons are in fourth, while the Wildcats are in third.
There should be lots of points scored when Jersey Village and Cy-Woods face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Falcons comes in having scored 247 this season, while the Wildcats have scored 269. Jersey Village scored 36 points last week as it defeated the Spartans.
The Falcons took down Cypress Lakes 36-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Qualls ran for 91 yards during the win.
