NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - Saturday brought a surprise upset in Texas where
Canyon (New Braunfels, Texas) triumphed over No. 124
Roosevelt (San Antonio, Texas) 48-22.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Gibreel Evans in the second quarter, the Cougars were up 25-16 at the half.
Canyon grew its lead to 25 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS scored four times in the third, including once on a
Skyler Nelson touchdown run.
The win was a nice bounce back for the New Braunfels school, which lost to Lake Travis last week, 20-6. The defeat comes as a step back for Roosevelt, who notched a 30-6 victory over Jay in its previous outing. The loss ended Roosevelt's two-game winning streak.
Canyon (2-1) will play a non-conference game against LBJ Austin next week, while Roosevelt (2-1) will take on Bowie also in a non-conference game.
